What’s One Thing Helping You Feel More Like Yourself Lately?
Not every breakthrough has to be dramatic. Sometimes one steady thing is enough.
Generation X was taught to keep it moving. Figure it out. Push through. Do what needs to be done. There’s some strength in that, no question. I have lived by this code for decades without thinking of how it works. When you are in the soup there is not much time to notice the journey or weigh the cost. Whether we like it or not there’s a cost involved with forgettting to notice what actually helps.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how much it matters to find even one thing that makes you feel more like yourself again. Not a full makeover. Not a giant reinvention. Just one thing that steadies you. One thing that gives you a little traction. One thing that reminds you you’re still here. Right now for me that one thing is restarting my journey back into the blog world.
Sometimes that’s a walk. Sometimes it’s cooking a meal from scratch that actually makes you close your eyes and reflect on who good it tastes. Sometimes it’s finding clothes that fit the body you have now instead of punishing yourself with the body you used to have. Sometimes it’s finally getting back into that one thing and remembering, slowly, how to make your own corner of the world feel like home again. Sometimes it’s learning something new without fear and realizing you can still learn new tricks at this age.
Right now for me everything involved with this blog is new to me in certain ways. I blogged for almost ten years the first time around and have been away from the scene for almost as long. Part of me is terrified and the other part of me is thrilled to be creating again. To some things may look small from the outside, but they are not small when they help you come back to yourself. Myself is creating. Creating makes me smile.
